Birth and the arrival of a new family member is a very important and wonderful special event. However, sometimes we can find complications along the way that might compromise the baby's health.
In Cranial Work, we believe it is important to follow the infant's development to help clear any compressions or tensions that may have come up during labour and birth.
Interventions such us forceps, vacuum, cesareans, a fast birth, etc. are steps that can influence the process and generate certain pressures that decrease mobility in the cranial bones. This could potentially generate long-term consequences.
For this reason we believe that providing babies with cranial treatment along the way is an important resource for supporting their nervous system and general health.
A child that receives Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy treatments is more likely to better enjoy their evolution and effectively respond to future complications. One of the most important evaluations that is done in cranial work is to perceive the mobility of the cranial bones and the fluids within and without the cranium (infants are very fluid beings). A craniosacral therapist can gently determine the health state and the vitality of the client.
Difficulties found at birth:
Premature birth
Baby gets "stuck" in the mother's pelvis
Forceps or vacuum
Cesarean
Multiple birth
Baby's size in relation to the mother's pelvis
It is very important to clarify that these variables will not necessarily become a difficulty or a problem. The human body is always seeking its most clear health state and balance. Fortunately, many babies manage wonderfully to resolve any compressions or severe tensions. In cases where resolution is harder to achieve, cranial therapists can help clear the patterns.
Possible symptoms in new borns:
Constant vomiting
Baby's head shape
Poor latch
Eyes alignment/convergence
Ears alignment/position
Swallowing or breathing problems
Uncommon body posture, neck/back tension
Frequent crying without apparent reason
Superficial, weak, empty or high-pitched crying
Possible symptoms that begin to show later/in childhood:
Concentration problems
Sleeping problems
Recurrent ear, sinus or respiratory tract infections
Scoliosis
Digestive disorders
Literary skills problems
Anxiety/hyperactive or other behavioural patterns
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is very delicate, safe and effective for babies and children. No pressures are applied, only a deep gentle listening of the body's own natural ability to heal itself.
Babies and children are pure beings with infinite potential. Yet, it doesn't matter how soon or late people can receive treatment. This work offers the chance to recover health and vitality at all times in life: during pregnancy, after birth, in childhood and adulthood.
Are there any adverse reactions?
Reactions to treatment can vary. Often the child finds it very relaxing and falls into a deep sleep; other times they can experiment a surge of energy and feel restless or discomfort. This situation is temporary and in general dissipates within one or two days.
The practitioner will ensure that clients and their children follow up with their family doctor as the primary caregiver.
